Magnavox Odyssey 4000

The Magnavox Odyssey 4000 was the last Pong based games console by Magnavox. It is also recognised as the last Pong based console to ever be released

It had 8 built in games : Tennis, Hockey, Smash and Practice (there were variations of each game). All games were in color.

Just like Magnavoxs previous machine, the Magnavox Odyssey 3000, the system had two detachable controllers. However, they were not paddles but joysticks, just like the Magnavox Odyssey 2.

This is actually a strange decision when you think about it as all the games were designed with paddles in mind and since the system could only run the games which were built in, there really wasn’t really need to include joysticks instead of paddles. Clearly, they were trying to keep up with the other consoles which were released that year, particularly the Atari VCS (later referred to as the Atari 2600).

Philips released the Phillips Odyssey 2001 in Europe. It was based on the Odyssey 4000 though many new features were added.
